Kindergarten students are learning about texture, and how to represent texture in art. We read the book Where the Wild Things Are and children made their own unique monster in a landscape scene. Then, we put our papers on top of texture plates to make interesting textures. Finally, we painted the background of our artworks with watercolors and used warm colors for the sunset sky. They created their own repetitive, brightly colored pop artwork using warm and cool colors. Students explored color mixing in this project by mixing the primary colors red and yellow to make orange. Check out room 10 at work on these masterpieces below!First grade students learned about Edward Hicks’ painting The Peaceable Kingdom and created their own realistic artwork in his style. Children showed depth in their artwork by making objects smaller in the background, and larger in the foreground. Students also experimented with watercolors using warm colors in their sunset sky, and cool colors in the river. Check out the work of room 2 below! Kindergarten students are learning about the artist Monet and are making their own "painterly" artwork in his style. Using Sponge dabbers, students are "dabbing" the paint to make their own Japanese Footbridge. Check out room 13 at work below!First Grade students looked at masks from around the world and created their own paper mask inspired by African Masks. Students made their masks symmetrical using pattern, line and shape. First graders also made their own "tie-dye" paper using markers and sponges. This handmade paper was then collaged onto these beautiful masks. Check out room 11 wearing their masks below!Kindergarten students are learning about texture, and how to represent texture in art.
